My journey
How it all started
As a child, I drew all the time, just for the joy of it. I even bought my own pencils and everything I needed for my art. I never thought of it as a career. I just loved it.
Why pharmacy
Growing up, I wanted to be a paediatrician. I loved children, and I loved seeing people happy and doing well. But I knew I couldn’t work somewhere people were in pain, or where I’d have to see blood. When it was time to fill in my university forms, I chose pharmacy: something I already knew a lot about and loved, and still a way to help people feel better. Art wasn’t really an option anyway, not that it was bad, but it was of a family thing (long story).
The flyers
After five years of pharmacy school and a one-year internship, I worked as a pharmacist for a couple of years. Then, in 2019, a church programme about talents and gifts got me asking what I could do beyond pharmacy. I prayed about it, and soon after I saw a flyer: a friend was running a graphic design class. I’d already caught myself analysing every flyer I saw and thinking about how it could be better and all that So I signed up, and I loved it.
For a while I was a pharmacist by day and a graphic designer on the side. I picked up some clients, but I had no clear direction yet and it wasn’t always easy. Still, I knew I was growing.
Finding UI/UX
Then one morning my husband said, “Why don’t you go into UI/UX Design? You’re already good at graphic design.” He didn’t really know what UI/UX was. It just came to him. I prayed about it, started studying through videos and free and paid classes, and realised this was where I truly belonged.
Still growing
Along the way I added branding, then motion design, then illustration. They’re all connected: UI/UX is my main focus, but every one of them is part of me, and I’m still exploring. Nobody knows it all, and nobody stops learning.
If you’re figuring it out too
I didn’t make these decisions alone. I made them with the One who helps me decide, and I’m grateful for where it has led me so far. If you don’t know where you’ll end up yet, don’t stay stuck asking yourself questions. Just move. Somebody might come along and point you somewhere that works for you. You don’t need it all figured out. Just move.
